Fixed Term - Maternity Leave Cover - In the event that the postholder on maternity leave returns earlier than expected, the duration of the contract will be adjusted accordingly.

We are looking for an experienced, adaptable, highly motivated, and outcome-focused individuals to work with our technical support team at the Royal College of Art.

The day job as a Fashion Accessories Specialist Technical Instructor:

  • Provide technical instruction, support, advice and demonstrations in accessories and bag making, prototyping, 3D forms, bag pattern cutting, construction and sewing. This includes leather, leather alternatives, fur alternatives, and new emerging materials.
  • Support the growth of bag making equipment, software, and services across the College, including the buying and setting up of new equipment and services.
  • Ongoing learning through making and skills sharing as part of a dynamic team.
  • Assist students and staff in problem solving and finding technical solutions.
  • Maintain specialist equipment and safety and keep accurate records.
  • Support College Teaching, Learning, Research activity that may require accessories and bag making as appropriate for the role.

What you will need to have:

  • Knowledge and experience working with a range of materials for bag making, construction, materials for 3d forms and other relevant processes and techniques including leather, leather alternatives, heavy duty fabric, fur alternatives, and felt.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use initiative and work as part of a team.
  • Excellent organisational, time management, planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent user focus and a flexible approach.
