We are seeking a passionate and dedicated College Disability Adviser to join our Student Experience Team. Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the College disability specialist, working collaboratively with students using the social model of disability.
  • Provide expert advice and support on disability matters to students, staff, Programme Leaders, and Deans.
  • Support students in their study, promoting independence and autonomy while maintaining a professional approach.
  • Advise and collaborate on wider issues around inclusion and accessibility within the College.
  • Develop a centralised and coherent approach to disability support, ensuring clarity, ease of access, and efficient administrative processes.

Main Duties:

Disability Advice:

  • Establish, deliver, and monitor high-quality advice and support for postgraduate taught and research students with disabilities.
  • Provide information on implementing support through Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) and internally.
  • Coordinate Inclusion Plans and reasonable adjustments within departments to support students' needs.
  • Act as a key point of contact for students with mental health difficulties, coordinating responses across the campus.
  • Develop effective links with other HEIs and external organisations to enhance support for disabled students.
  • Write clear guidelines for all administrative tasks and work flexibly as part of the Student Experience Team.

General Advice:

  • Provide continuing support for students to interpret their enquiries and find resolution.
  • Plan and organise appropriate events and activities for students.
  • Represent the Student Experience Team at College events such as Open Days, Orientation, and Registration.
  • Assist with College-wide student events as required.

Person Specification essential skills:

  • Knowledge of student disability issues, Equality Act, and relevant legislation.
  • Effective communication and networking skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage complex decisions.
  • Excellent team working, administrative, and IT skills.
  • Outstanding organisational, time management, and customer service skills.
