The Royal College of Art is seeking an exceptional Associate Lecturer in Painting to join our internationally renowned MA Painting programme.

With an illustrious history and global reputation, MA Painting is a dynamic, studio-based postgraduate programme that brings together an exceptionally diverse community of students, staff and alumni from over 60 nationalities. The programme champions an expansive and inclusive approach to painting, critically engaging with its histories, theories and practices while embracing evolving media, technologies and contemporary cultural contexts.

We are looking for an outstanding artist and educator with an active contemporary painting practice who is passionate about supporting the next generation of artists. You will contribute to the delivery of our one-year Master's programme through high-quality teaching, tutorials, critical dialogue and assessment, helping students develop ambitious, intellectually rigorous and innovative practices.

Working closely with the programme team, you will provide one-to-one and group teaching, offer constructive feedback, contribute to formative and summative assessment, develop teaching materials, and participate in programme activities including staff meetings, planning events and cross-disciplinary initiatives. You may also support field trips and contribute to the wider academic life of the School.

We're looking for someone who brings:

• An active contemporary artistic practice with a strong engagement in painting.
• A relevant first degree and a Master's degree (or equivalent professional standing).
• Experience teaching or mentoring postgraduate students in a studio environment.
• The ability to support diverse contemporary painting practices through inclusive and critically engaged teaching.
• Experience delivering teaching in person, online and through blended learning.
• Current professional practice and knowledge of the contemporary art world.

The Royal College of Art is seeking an inspiring Associate Lecturer in Sculpture to join our internationally renowned School of Arts & Humanities.

The MA Sculpture programme is an expansive, responsive and critically engaged environment where students explore contemporary approaches to thinking, making, presenting and challenging sculpture. Our programme embraces diverse practices, from material experimentation and installation to social practice, public art, performance and conceptual approaches, alongside emerging technologies including robotics, AI, sound, moving image and immersive media.

We are looking for an accomplished practitioner whose work critically engages with the evolving relationship between sculpture, digital technologies and material practice. You will bring expertise that supports students working across the expanded field of sculpture, with knowledge of areas such as digital fabrication, VR/AR, robotics, AI, spatial computing, computational design, motion capture or other innovative approaches to making.

Equally, we welcome candidates whose practice explores the wider cultural, social and environmental implications of these technologies through perspectives such as ecological practice, sustainable and circular making, new materialisms, decolonial approaches or more-than-human relations.

As an Associate Lecturer, you will contribute to high-quality postgraduate teaching through tutorials, seminars, workshops and group teaching, providing academic guidance and constructive feedback that enables students to develop ambitious and critically informed practices. You will contribute to teaching materials, participate in assessment, support programme activities and help foster an inclusive, collaborative and intellectually stimulating learning environment.

You will have an active contemporary artistic practice, experience of teaching or tutoring students through individual and group learning, and an understanding of current professional contexts within contemporary sculpture. Experience of online and blended learning is essential, together with a commitment to equality, inclusion and continuous professional development.

A Master's degree in a relevant discipline and experience of teaching or supervising at postgraduate level are desirable.

Curating is a creative, dynamic, and diverse practice, evolving constantly in response to contemporary artists, cultural practitioners, and the expectations of today’s audiences. The Curating Contemporary Art MA (CCA) at the Royal College of Art (RCA) is a highly influential and internationally renowned programme. Our community of students and alumni, spanning over 47 countries, actively contributes to the global understanding and practice of curating. Our programme emphasizes collaborative, peer-to-peer learning, fostering a network of professionals collectively shaping contemporary art curation.

Purpose of the Post:

We are seeking an outstanding practitioner and educator in curatorial practice to join our Curating Contemporary Art programme. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, and delivery of the one-year Masters Degree, as detailed in the programme specification.

Key Responsibilities:

• Curriculum Development and Delivery: Engage with the transnational and transcultural context of curatorial practice, contributing to curriculum discussions and developing pedagogical approaches to meet the needs of a diverse student body.
• Teaching and Mentorship: Deliver lectures, workshops, seminars, and critical reviews, teaching from your own established practice and research across CCA and other RCA programmes.
• Collaborative Working: Demonstrate enthusiasm for team-based programme delivery, flexible teaching, and working collectively with colleagues.
• Research and Practice: Pursue high-level research and practice, securing funding opportunities, and involving colleagues in collaborative projects to enhance the programme’s research culture.
• Programme Promotion: Actively promote the programme, staff, and students through public events, conferences, and projects, supporting recruitment and alumni relations.
• Administrative Duties: Undertake necessary administrative tasks related to teaching and programme management.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Relevant Academic Background: A first degree in a relevant specialism, and preferably a postgraduate qualification or PhD in a related discipline.
• Teaching Excellence: Commitment to high-quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for a diverse student body.
• Experience and Engagement: Evidence of ability and enthusiasm for working with students across theory and practice, and experience in developing and delivering courses.
• Research and Practice: A recognized international profile in curatorial practice, with a proven record of research and practice operating at a high level.
• Collaborative Spirit: Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds, and contribute to team-based programme delivery.
• Public Engagement: Active interest in promoting the programme through public events, and the ability to act as a positive advocate for the RCA.
